Easy Healthy Party Snack Ideas

Party finger food is often so delicious that it keeps us going back for more and more. What many people don’t realise, however, is that these party favours are often loaded with bad fats, plenty of salt and way too much sugar. If you’re throwing a party, or putting together a gift basket or Christmas hamper filled with treats to bring to a party, then try out some of the following delicious party snack ideas that will satisfy hunger without the extra calories.

Smoked Salmon and Cheese Rolls

Place 1 cup of light cream cheese, 3 teaspoons of finely chopped fresh dill, and 1-1/2 teaspoons of finely grated lemon rind into a bowl. Season with some salt and pepper and stir the ingredients until they are combined. Next, place a thawed crepe from a 400g packed of frozen French-style crepes onto a flat surface. Spread 1 tablespoon of the cheese mixture over the crepe, top with 1 slice of smoked salmon, a sprinkling of thinly sliced red onion, and roll it up to enclose the filling. Slice the rolled crepe into bite-sized discs, secure them with toothpicks, and repeat the process.

Avocado Dip with Pita Bread

Avocado dip is rich and delicious, is a treat that everyone will love, and is packed with healthy essential fatty acids. To make the dip, place two avocados in a bowl and use a fork to mash them until they’re almost smooth. Add 1 finely chopped tomato, 1 crushed clove of garlic, and two tablespoons of lime juice, stirring the mixture until it’s combined. Serve with pita bread, or any other healthy bread or cracker you may have at home.

Cheesy Vegetable Skewers with Hummus

Cheese and vegetable skewers are the perfect healthy solution when you’re in a hurry to make your snacks. Gather together some slices of tasty cheddar cheese, 5mm-thick slices of Lebanese cucumber, a handful of cherry tomatoes and some bamboo skewers. Slide the veggies and cheese onto the skewers in an alternate fashion and serve with a bowl of hummus.

Hot Parsnip Chips

Everyone loves chips at a party, but making your own parsnip chips is more fun and healthy. Start by making chilli salt by combining 1-1/2 teaspoons of sea salt, 1/2 teaspoon of finely grated orange rind, 1/2 teaspoon of hot chilli flakes, and 1/4 teaspoon of ground cumin in a small bowl. Then, add some vegetable oil to a large, non-stick frying pan so that it is 5cm deep in the pan, and heat the oil to 170°C over medium-high heat. Peel 2 parsnips into ribbons and add them to the hot oil to deep-fry for about 1 minute, or until they are crisp and golden. Transfer the chips with a slotted spoon to a tray lined with paper towel, and sprinkle them with the chilli salt before serving.

Banana and Honey Wraps

For the sweet tooth, these honey and banana wraps are both sweet and low in calories. Start by placing mini tortillas on a clean work surface. Spread ricotta cheese over each tortilla, topping them with banana that has been thinly sliced diagonally. Sprinkle with sultanas and drizzle with honey before rolling up the tortillas and either tying them with string or securing them with a toothpick.
